Case study - Japanese Culture Festival website and content system

The "Bon Odori" Japanese culture festival is an annual event in Vilnius bringing together Japanese and Lithuanian culture through dance, music, workshops, and food. The organizers needed a website that captured the bold visual character of the festival poster and could hold dozens of participants, workshops, and food vendors in one easy-to-manage system.

The solution

  • Design built on the poster's character: we built the site's hero section straight from the actual festival poster — instead of a generic, forgettable template, it uses a large red circle, vertical Japanese characters, and three dancer illustrations with a sense of depth.
  • A content system built from raw material: we reviewed and organized information from dozens of participants — photos, PDF submissions, and descriptions — and structured it into separate page templates for workshops, food vendors, and dance performances, each with full photo galleries.
  • Animation without overload: the homepage comes alive through a coordinated opening animation, and content blocks reveal themselves as you scroll — motion with purpose, not just a technical showcase.
  • Registration kept separate: for the ticketed workshops we integrated a registration link, clearly separated from the open, walk-in activities in shared spaces.
  • Static deployment, no server: since the site doesn't need real-time data processing, we generated it as fully static — a faster, cheaper, and safer choice than a standard server setup.

Results

Out of scattered, unstructured material came a smoothly running website with eleven workshop pages, four food vendor pages, and two dance performance pages — all using real photos and descriptions, not placeholder text. The site launched successfully and is live at japonukulturosfestivalis.lt.

From checkbox chaos to a live registration system

Bon Odori is a two-day Japanese culture festival in Vilnius with ten bookable workshops, several capped, several paid by direct bank transfer. We replaced an open checkbox spreadsheet with an automated registration backend that enforces capacity, manages a waitlist, and sends branded confirmation emails, with real-time seat counts live on the festival's website.
